Pool Automation Trends Worth Knowing About Before You Design
Automation has moved fast enough in recent years that what counted as a premium feature a few years ago is now a fairly standard conversation during design. Bridgeland and Towne Lake both route pool and backyard plans through an HOA architectural control committee before construction, and lakefront or lake-adjacent lots carry their own drainage and setback rules on top of that.

What's Trending Toward Standard
App-based control of pump scheduling, lighting scenes, and heater temperature has become a common ask on new builds rather than a rare upsell, largely because variable-speed pumps (now the energy-efficient default on most new construction) are naturally suited to programmable scheduling anyway.
What's Still a Premium Layer
Full chemical-feed automation, voice-assistant integration, and AI-based monitoring (see the related article) are still more of a premium add than a default inclusion as of now; if any of these interest you, raising it during the design phase (rather than after equipment is already selected) keeps the wiring and plumbing options open rather than requiring a retrofit later.
